"NINE"

NINE revolves around Guido Contini, a film director in the Fellini mold. Having just suffered through several box office flops, he attempts to write and direct a new film but is unable to come up with a suitable plot. Drifting towards a nervous breakdown, Guido finds himself examining his past flawed relationships with the many women who have come through his life and struggling to act his mature age of 40 as opposed to nine.  This sophisticated and sexy musical was written by Arthur Kopit and Maury Yeston, creators of Titanic, Grand Hotel and Phantom.

Newman has worked extensively in the Los Angeles theater playing leading roles in the following musicals:

"BYE, BYE, BIRDIE"

Rock star, Conrad Birdie has been drafted into the Army, thus meaning the end of his career, as well as that of his manager/songwriter Albert Peterson. But Albert's long-suffering girlfriend/secretary Rose Alvarez has an idea. Choose a fan at random, and have Conrad give her a "good-bye kiss" live on television just before he goes.

"GUYS AND DOLLS"

Based on Damon Runyon's short story, "THE IDYLL OF MISS SARAH BROWN", GUYS AND DOLLS revolves around Nathan Detroit, the organizer of the oldest established permanent floating crap game in New York, who bets the fellow gambler Sky Masterson that he can't make the next girl fall in love with him. The next girl he sees happens to be Miss Sarah Brown, a pure at heart Salvation Army type reformer, and the stage is set for a hilarious evening of complications.

  "THE ROBBER BRIDEGROOM"

Legendary figures of Mississippi's colorful past--keel-boatman Mike Fink and the dread Harp brothers--along with characters from Eudora Welty's own delightful imagination people this rollicking fantasy set along the Natchez Trace. Berry-stained bandit Jamie Lockhart steals pioneer wilderness planter Clement Musgrove's beautiful daughter, Rosamond, away from a home dominated by his ugly, evil second wife, Salome. These and other characters are gathered together in a tale at once acid and gentle, wise and lighthearted, woven as much from the rough homespun of American history as the gossamer thread of fairy stories.

"VERONICA'S ROOM"

Susan Kerner and Larry Eastwood are invited to the Brabissant mansion by the Mackeys who are struck by Susan's resemblance to Veronica Brabissant, long-dead daughter of the family for whom they work. Susan goes along with the charade to comfort Veronica's only living relative. But once dressed in Veronica's clothes, Susan finds herself herself locked in the role - and locked in Veronica's room. Or is she Veronica, in 1935, pretending to be an imaginary Susan?

"THE RAINMAKER"

Transformed into a young man, this over eager fan's dreams are soon fulfilled when he finds himself leading the team in both hitting and pitching, but Damn Yankees keeps the story interesting, for there is a price to be paid, and the Devil and his seductive assistant Lola (Gwen Verdon) are waiting to collect.

"CAROUSEL"

"BAREFOOT IN THE PARK"

"MY FAIR LADY"

Musical version of George Bernard Shaw's Pygmillion. It is the famous story of Henry Higgins, the language expert who tries to pass a poor uneducated flower girl off as a member of stuffy British nobility. It is a lovely musical with a lot of comedy and a classic love story.

"THE ELEPHANT MAN"

"CLASS OF '61"

ABC Civil War Epic

1993

Steven Spielberg's Amblin Productions.

The movie succeeds in humanizing both sides of that terrible war, by giving you characters on both sides to root for. Rather than rooting for the North or the South, you instead find yourself rooting desperately for peace so the lives of the men and women involved will not be destroyed. Though many important issues are involved in the plot, the movie is about the characters, not about the issues. The acting is superb, especially for a TV movie. The movie, on the whole, is very worth watching despite its depressing end.
